Philippines holds first automated election Crowds flocked to the polls Monday as the Philippines held its first national election using electronic voting machines. Lines were long and polls extended voting time by an hour in order to accommodate everyone. Election day was also marred by violence as a gunman killed at least three people at one mayoral candidate’s house, and police were on high alert to prevent additional violence and election fraud.
